For DN1, I am not aware of any gameplay differences between “Duke Nukum” and “Duke Nukem”, but I haven’t played these games through.
Between 3 episodes of DN1 and 4 episodes of DN2 (each episode of DN2 is twice the length of Halloween Harry), playing both in one month may be too much.
I had made the mistake(?) of playing DN2 first so I could never force myself to go back and play DN1. The primitive PC speaker noises and lack of music spoil it for me, despite some folks saying the game actually plays better…
