I just beat the game. The biggest issue seemed to be the level design with mazey corridors and hazards and enemies obstructed from view. Maybe, I was just careless, but it seemed too easy to run into enemies, and the incessant respawning would sometimes put them in the way. It was often extremely frustrating.
I once accidentally hit the F1 or F2 key, which ended up restarting the level out of the blue without warning — a terrible omission that would have saved frustration.
The ending was rather underwhelming, and most of the bosses were sort of tedious and pointless. I can’t believe how ridiculously easy the final boss was. The second episode boss was sort of neat, though.
I originally tried to play from my floppies through DOSbox, but was unable to get them to work, so I ultimately tried the Zoom Platform version, which seemed to have bugs — the lives wouldn’t deplete each time I died except for bosses, I didn’t respawn at checkpoints when I died, and there was one time an enemy was unkillable, but could still hurt me.
Overall, the game was a neat idea that could be fun, but sadly, it suffers from highly frustrating design issues. At least, I finally beat all the levels after all these years.
