As for your Motherboard, I wonder if it’s either a RAID or ACPI drive setting that the SATA ports are configured behind, as many of those early boards did not present SATA in a supported fashion while everyone was on IDE still. So it may be a BIOS setting required to put the ports into a supported mode for MS-DOS.
