Looking forward to this one, haven’t played it in a while. If I remember correctly, this particular title was somewhere in the “medium” range of difficulty, though I never finished it. (Only Infocom title I ever finished was Infidel, and then only with a few hints)

Heck, I haven’t checked in here on ANYTHING in a while! I see Doom & Loom just finished, I’m a little late but will check them out.

I haven’t played any Infocom text adventure to a meaningful extent, and I’ve always heard good things about Planetfall. I’m gonna grab the Zork Anthology on GOG.com, it says it has Planetfall included; quite inspired by Loom to play a bit more for the game club!

Planetfall was the Infocom game I had played the most until I played through Wishbringer (which I finished just yesterday). I never got back to it because I was afraid of soft-locking. After I finished Wishbringer, someone actually suggested tackling Planetfall next. I think I’ve read it’s one of the more approachable Infocom games.

That’s the only thing about these old style adventure games. You can get into an unwinnable situation and not know it. If you’re running around in circles for hours, you don’t know if you’re just missing something, or if you made a fatal mistake and have to start over. I ran into that with Ballyhoo many years ago…haven’t tried again. For sure it’ll happen again with Planetfall, but I gotta try anyway!

Text only adventure games just never clicked with me… Can I turn things around now?

    If text-only doesn’t seem appealing, there’s always Legend Entertainment 😉 …and Sam and Max Reality 2.0 :p

Having had an on-and-off romance with text adventures over the years and delving a bit into creating a couple of my own, I would dare to call them pure creations – without the burdened of aesthetics you can focus on prose and puzzles. Easier said than done! I’m in awe of the grandeur and scope of Infocom text adventures.

“Floyd” is also the name of an ifMUD bot that allows group play. Started in 2007 and is still going today, you can find transcripts of all their sessions online. Planetfall is in there too (albeit unsolved!).
