I’ve been meaning to sign up to the DOS Game Club since I saw the Dungeon Keeper episode shared on Mastodon in early 2024!

I finally got round to rediscovering that open tab in my browser and have spent the past fortnight binge-listening to episodes, focusing on games that I have strong memories about.

I started with DOS in 1992 on a Tosbiba T5100 gifted to me by a school friends father who worked in electronics recycling; prior to that I had access to an Amiga 600 on which I played a lot of Sim City.

I didn’t have access to the internet until 1998 and so only had ZZT, Battle Chess and a golf game called “World Class Leader Board” I also had a copy of Quick BASIC and so much of my time was spent typing in BASIC games and playing those, especially ones from David Ahl’s 101 BASIC Computer Games.

Who else remembers typing in the thousands of lines of Star Trek’s BASIC code only to never to actually get it working due to typos?

I’m a software engineer now, so the experience can’t have scarred me too deep.
