Took me too long to figure out that the configuration screen has special controls: press the first letter of the option. Arrow keys won’t do anything. (Unlike the main menu.)
You can also do this command before launching to tweak the SB settings:
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T6
Finally you can change direction mid-flight if you release the jetpack key momentarily, then press left/right before quickly holding the jetpack again. IMO these controls are counter-intuitive, sticky, and just bad; though some claim they’ve learned to adapt.
I’ll second that. You really have to get a feel for stop/starting and tapping the jetpack constantly, like it’s a flaky old volkswagen 😉
Especially important when you’re running out of fuel – you don’t have to let Harry drop all the way to the floor when it cuts out – just restart it midair!
I can confirm I’ve learned to adapt, having played all the way through when I was 12 when my brain was more pliable :D. The controls are pretty well burned into my brain, and it plays no less fluently for me than any other platformer.
