Haha yeah this stood out to me too…
I gave up on modern gaming around about the time Steam started becoming mandatory. Civilization V was the kicker for me. Bought it on CD but couldn’t play it unless I managed it through Steam… and then every time I wanted to play it I spent half the time I had available downloading updates. Yeah, no thanks. I ended out moving to a Mac. I have recently recanted on that and revived my steam account recently, but very reluctantly!
