Pool\Snooker Games
-
I really enjoyed this month’s look at a number of different pinball games for DOS and I think it would be cool to take a look at pool games in a similar way. There have been a number of DOS pool games that I have enjoyed over the years an i’m sure there were others as well. Some that I would suggest are Sharky’s 3D Pool and Interplay’s Virtual Pool.
One of the best pool simulations I’ve ever played. If you are a fan of billiards – these games will feel like you are transforming your mouse into a real cue.
Wrote about it a bit here:

Nice review, dr_st!
I played a bit of this back in the day. It was also the one and only game I ever played with someone over modem!
The mechanics were really great for the time. Every other pool game I had played before this felt stodgy, unnatural and restrictive.
The way the mouse is used in Virtual Pool, though, seemed so natural and obvious. I also loved being able to activate the predictive lines.
I’m not much of one for this type of game in general, but this one was lots of fun to just muck about in.
Incidentally, there’s a really fun bug when playing rotation. If you play against the computer and you both score exactly 60, there are no more balls on the table but no winner, and the AI totally freaks out!
Enjoying the World Snooker Championship (happening right now!) and was reminded of the epic Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker for DOS and Amiga.
You could definitely find enough Snooker and Pool to fill an “August Sport” month one year (after sporting summers of cricket (2024) and golf (this year), snooker seems like a good bet!).

We’ll have Pool/Snooker month in May 2026, at the same time as the Crucible, I’m hearing!
