    Rusalki quest bug:

I have been attempting to complete the Rusalki quest. I was under the impression that I had completed all of the Rusalki encounters in chapter 1, including visiting Haphra, declining his offer, and defeating the Rusalki which appeared. I have also defeated Crenard. I repeatedly attempt to board the ship from Silden to Temple Eortis, being declined passage every time. The ship captain states that one of my party members must be in “critical condition” — I have attempted to board the ship with my characters in “near-death” status, stamina drained, and even in chapter 2 after getting plagued from the Quegian Pirates outside of Silden all to no avail.

Fast forward to chapter 3, I began following Dimwood.net’s excellent guide for BaK. I looked at the map and attempted to retrace my steps to encounter the Rusalki again. I had already done both the night time and day time encounters in chapter 1. After retracing my steps, none of the Rusalki encounters appeared (Day encounters or night encounters).

At this point, I think I am going to proceed with the main plot of the game and nevermind completing the side quest. The side quest only enables you to heal for free at the Temple Eortis, which is helpful, but certainly not a game breaker.

If anyone has any advice please let me know.

Okay, I just went through several hundred 30+ year old conversations on Usenet to try figuring this one out. From what I can gather, there are at least two possibilities:

    a) Some players say there is a single rusalki in Dimwood. They believe you need to kill this one too.

    b) One player said “Some are hidden so if your stealth is good, you might not get to fight them.” I have no idea what this person meant, and if this is true.

As I said in our earlier e-mails, I’ve never successfully completed this quest in the 30+ years I’ve played the game. I’m eager to hear from anyone who does.

Once that is figured out, I can update the walkthrough at Dimwood.net accordingly.

Edit: some more thoughts on possible quest triggers:

    – There’s an old woman in a house in Darkmoor that can only be visited at night. She speaks of the Rusalki. Who knows – maybe she needs to be visited.
    – Re-visit Haphra the mystic’s house after you reject her fortune and then kill her rusalki. There is a whole new dialogue with her after that.

    A) I’ve explored the entirety of Dimwood and completed Craig’s quest involving the Pantathians.

    B) It is possible that my stealth was too high, however I tried after removing the “Weedwalker” shoes as well. It could be the case that my stealth was still too high after that since this was done in Chapter 3.

*I have already visited the woman in Darkmoor who you can only speak to at night.

*I will attempt to speak to Haphra again. I did pay her the 50 sovereigns required to speak to her.

I’m interested to know the reason why you’ve never completed the Rusalki quest. This is the first time I’ve actually played Betrayal at Krondor, I loved the Sierra King’s Quest games, but I did play a lot of Wizardry and Might and Magic.

I even checked with both Gemini and ChatGPT, Gemini said there is a known script issue with the game where the ship in Silden will get stuck. Although, I don’t trust Gemini regarding this game because it has been terribly inaccurate thus far.

    Edit:

I added a few photos, I have spoken with the Darkmoor woman and Haphra again. As you can see, all of my character’s skills are displayed. It could be an issue where my stealth skill is too high. I have walked up and down Rusalki road hundreds of times at day and at night. I have gotten 0 encounters, as I am fairly sure I have defeated all the Rusalki (I should have been keeping count, but this was back in Chapter 1).

I have already defeated the Dimwood Rusalki as well. I just verified that during the day and at night to ensure I didn’t miss the encounter. Nothing! 🙁

Yeah, that almost definitely sounds like a LLM fabrication. Has no basis in fact.

I’ve never actually received the Rusalki quest, so I never tried. For this month’s playthrough I will attempt it now that I know how to trigger it.

    Interesting,

In my game I defeated all the Rusalkis in chapter 1. I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. I visited the temple, encountered the Rusalki, and had the weedwalker shoes in the inventory of all my characters prior to attempting the quest.

I may have never encountered the last Rusalki, I’m really not entirely sure. I think you need to complete all of the encounters prior to boarding the ship. I then attempted to complete the quest in chapters 2 and 3.

I just wanted to let you know the specific circumstances that has so far resulted in the inability to complete the quest.
