Another ground breaking game from Looking Glass Studios.

Is it a mech-sim? An FPS? A tactical shooter? It’s got elements of all of these.

The mission maps were quite large (like Mechwarrior 2) but the variety of missions was quite unique.

In addition to the typical go and blow up / kill the enemy, you also had stealth reconnaissance, repair, escort and in sometimes just ‘escape with your life’ objectives.

Also had Wing Commander style FMV cut scenes where you interact with your squad mates in between missions.

The presentation was incredible for the time and it was probably let down by the fact that it had very high system specs.

You really needed a Pentium machine to run this properly. On my (usually quite capable) 486 DX2 66Mhz machine with 8GB ram, I remember the last mission running more like a slide show 😛

Luckily this is easily available now on GOG or Steam and runs beautifully.

This game was really a blast! I second doing this one.

It can also be found in the internet archive.

Yeah this was a really fascinating game to read about back in the day; never played it or even saw it, but I have bought in on GOG since.

It looks like the GOG release is a Nightdive Studios work, which is promising!
