This is completely frivolous, but there’s something nostalgic about old text pages with simple graphics that appeals to me. Examples would be pages from pre-WWW online services like Prodigy, and those old teletext shows that some TV channels showed late at night. I have been searching for a simple database program in DOS to create pages like that.

Turns out, the solution is much easier than I thought. Thanks to Rich Geldreich’s GIFLOAD program in Qbasic, you can create nonsense to amuse yourself all day long. Just save your GIF’s in 87a format, use GIFLOAD to load them with your desired size and position, and add text with simple PRINT statements. I just found a new thing to do on a rainy day!
