Since this is the DOS Game Club I felt compelled to play the DOS version.
I am playing the German Gold Edition in its original form.

There is a community patch version 1.52 but it does not change anything significantly. Only some texts and the grass texture to bring it closer to the settlers 1 grass I think. But I don’t like the look of it.

I’m playing the Gold Edition on DOSBox Staging, bought on GOG. for some reason I’m occasionally encountering slowdown this time, which hadn’t been a problem any of the other times I’ve replayed this. I wonder if the speed-up key (V) is causing it, or if it’s a DOSBox bug or something else.

Has anyone tried the 10th Anniversary Edition? I wonder how it compares to the Gold Edition and the original…

I played it around its release, but I seem to remember being disappointed; I was hoping it would iron out more of the flaws in terms of pacing, resource management and so on. I think it does help a little bit, though. Someone here said that it adds a variable speed setting, I think.
