Who Played Original Maps Only?

We didn’t have access to a modem when we got ZZT so I spent almost all my time with the game with the default maps, especially TOWN. When my dad brought an old monochrome laptop home this and California Games were two games a played on it a bunch when we were travelling.

Were there many other people who really only played the Original Maps or was everyone actually swapping disks or downloading custom maps from BBSes and whatnot?

Of note the game is still available from Epic though the Epic game store for free.

Not me, as I’ve not played this at all.

But it’s definitely an interesting point that people will have vastly different perspectives on this game, because some will have played it just as the game that it is, while others will have embraced the engine aspect and played all sorts of stuff.

I have played the original because it just was there on one of these Shareware CD ; said shareware also had a few homemade maps, that was before access to the Internet was widespread.

What shocked me and spiked my interest again is noticing the game has still an active scene, like Doom or IFs !
