Why didn’t Super make it?

I’m looking forward to this one! I’ve only tinkered with ZZT briefly, it strikes me as an ASCII version of Unlimited Adventures or some other construction kit.
I’m trying to figure out why Super ZZT never really got off the ground. From classicdosgames it looks like it’s in 40×25 mode instead of 80, is that what killed it?

Long story short, it seems that there were some technical limitations compared to the original, and if you had the shareware version the editor was hidden, so there were much fewer people making their own maps.
