Its serendipitous that I was listening to the Hugo’s House of Horrors episode as I opened this thread to read. I am genuinely excited to have an excuse to pick up ZZT again for the first time in what must be twenty years.

The Museum of ZZT is one of those incredible websites that someone can loose an entire weekend in just browsing around and exploring its many, many treasures. I have visited it briefly several times over the past few years but look forward to having an excuse to spend an hour or more finding some gems.

I thought I had remembered there existing a key for speeding up the game but couldn’t find it mentioned anywhere in game 😮

Might actually now be able to complete a level in a reasonable time haha!

Running the LOADFIX utility got the game running for me. Now I’m stuck on beating the Captain at fencing haha!

While I have my original jewel case version of the game *somewhere* in storage the Gold Edition was available on Gogs for £2.19 which has saved me hunting through boxes for my original version.

I haven’t played the game in over a decade and I really enjoyed watching the intro video to the game, although it played a little glitchy for me at points.

It’s just 320×200 in resolution but still looks pretty decent full screen upscaled on my 4K monitor.

I stumbled upon this last year, it is a very good resource for the game.

I almost impulse purchased the book but then noticed the price of shipping 😮

I first played The Settlers at a friends house when I was eight or nine in the late 90s and became hooked. A few months later I recognised the game art on a box in Game and asked my parents to buy it for me.

It turns out I had bought the sequal The Settlers II and while my Dad enjoyed playing through the entire story line, I enjoyed maxing out the levels, building everywhere and on one occurance managed to get to a point where all production in the game just stopped.

I haven’t played it in years, but for a period of my childhood it consumed hundreds of hours of my time.
