A Game of Strategy (1990 shareware by Henrik Hoexbroe)

This is a fun DOS game based on the board game Stratego.
The author said the shareware version can’t be registered and there is no difference in the shareware or registered versions as far as game play or features.
I was able to use a hex editor to change text at start and end screens of game to say it’s registered. It would be cool to have the source code from this game to modify some things.
Scoring is done by number of moves but this is not stored.
In addition, there is a bug that only shows in Beginner mode where sometimes the opponent’s piece remains on the board as a ghost piece after it’s captured.
PS – I just today asked the author if he would be willing to donate his source code for further development. I’ve communicated with him a few times (as recently as last year).
