There is an Abuse port, that can be downloaded for free, which has the FPS limit removed. If you want to see the comparison between the port and DOS original, here’s the video.

Nice! I thought Abuse ran very well on our 486SX back in the day. Maybe the 15 FPS cap was a part of that!

Looks like that project has moved to https://github.com/metinc/abuse/releases

Woof, tried to just grab the DOS version and run it in DOSBox Staging – the run speed just fluctuated quite wildly. Needs a bit of config to run the original in DOSBox? So these ports really do come in handy. (I last played Abuse on a Wii, aiming with the Wiimote!! It.. was functional.)

Seems to be a pretty good port! Very playable.

The appimage is a little graphically glitchy on my linux machine though – it borks my multi monitor setup so I have to disable one monitor before I play, and it sometimes does a flickery lockup when loading a new level, but I can fix that be just returning to the menu and then going back into the game.

On a personal level, frame rates have never been a big hangup for me, and in fact high framerates can be a bit jarring combined with chunky pixels and animations with few frames. It’s not as objectionable here as I’ve seen elsewhere, but it does feel slightly off in the back of my mind.

I do like the ability to change weapons with the scroll wheel though!

I mentioned this in the Linux memory thread as well. I had some issues with the version from metinc mentioned above. The one I ended up running was Abuse 2025: https://github.com/apancik/Abuse_2025

@forslund I’ve finished the game in May, but I think the port you’ve posted is the one I’ve switched to eventually, because of the issues with the other one I’ve mentioned (mostly losing connection from controls, which made it very hard to finish some sections which required precise input)
