    He, my memory had totally forgotten about the abysmal road and especially rail construction controls.

    You need to pick every direction of rail manually from the build toolbox and then place them? Somehow I was convinced it was more modern in that you could just draw the tracks on the landscape and it would magically pick the right pieces.

    Am I the only one who had too rose-tinted memories of how the game played?

    I fear this is how it is. Though also playing Simutrans extensively (the other open source transport type game apart from OpenTTD these days), “drawing” is not always an advantage, I can tell you. As it is in the other game, I often end up with unwanted cross-connections etc. The manual way of Transport Tycoon at least allows for anal-retentive fine-grained control.

    Not entirely sure, but wouldn’t that “modern” style of road constructions be the one as it is done in SimCity 2000?

    Given their similar aesthetics, I’d not be surprised if the memories of those two games got jumbled.
