I haven’t really got into this game yet, but I was absolutely fascinated by the cover artwork – I really love early DOS-era box art like this, where computer graphics weren’t at the stage where they could get the feeling of the game across and they painted these epic scenes instead.

I’d never heard of this happening before! I assumed that the artwork was commissioned specifically for the game, but it’s a picture called “Heavy Metal Hero” by Rodney Matthews that just happened to be used for both the game and album. He’s worked with a lot of classic metal bands and also some modern ones, and shows a particular liking for robotic tusks 🙂
