I’m from a small town in Arizona. I found this podcast while browsing old dos games for that good ol’ nostalgia fix. Gave some episodes a chance and loved them. I thought it would be fun to participate and experience some old favorite games of the past, discover ones I missed and also find ones I’ve forgotten about long ago.

I’ve been playing dos games since the mid 90s, started out watching my brother play Kings Quest and 7th Guest (he convinced me I was breaking the law by watching him play.) From there I started to discover and games of my own; X-Wing, Lemmings, and Civilization to name a few.

I don’t really remember what the first PC I played on was. If I recall correctly it was a frankenstein monster of parts my brother and I could find in thrift stores or hand-me-downs from friends and family. Which honestly taught me at a young age how to work on computers if I was to feed my passion for gaming.

It’s been a long time since I thought about DOS and old x86 systems and I’m excited to join this community to spark that old love again.

    Welcome, thanks for sharing!

To me, interest in DOS and old systems is a phase thing. Sometimes I am very into it, and then I can not touch my DOS system / DOS games collection for months at a time, focusing on more modern titles.

I have just recently reconnected my old DOS/Win98 PC at my parents place and discovered it still works more or less fine. However, since I don’t live there anymore – I rarely use it, relying on my DOSBox image of it most of the time.

That’s so awesome your parents still have your old PC! Was the operating system still usable? Did you still have your old saves? That would be cool to run my old saves. I regret not keeping my old systems and data.

Welcome! It’s really fun to see where people are from. I can’t believe how global our reach is!

    >> Was the operating system still usable?
It is – at least the DOS part of it. Windows works fine but it is not as stable. I believe the old motherboard or some other component (RAM? GPU?) is not at 100% health there…

    >> Did you still have your old saves?
Yes, as long as the hard drive is working (*knock-on-wood*), I still have my old saves. However, many years ago I’ve grabbed my entire collection of DOS games and software, off that PC and into my DOSBox folder, and I keep copies it on some of my modern PCs. Therefore, quite a few games that I’ve played and replayed since, have newer, “better” saves, and not all of them have made it back there. 😀

    Whoops, double-posted by accident.
