Hello everyone, this is slamo, and I’ve been playing DOS games pretty much my whole life.
My dad got into information technology early so we always had computers around the house. Our first PC was a Compaq Portable with the green phosphorus screen, and eventually he built a PC that continuously got upgraded over the years. I of course enjoyed the classics like DOOM, Keen, Duke3D, etc, but I also have a fascination with the more amateurish shareware stuff like Moraff’s World and the Hugo adventure games.
As far as DOS related hobbies go, I have been an avid tool-assisted speedrunner of DOS games. I have a couple dozen published DOS runs on TASVideos, with some highlights including every episode of Wolfenstein 3D and a couple of the Keen games. I enjoy the puzzle-solving aspect of optimization and I also like figuring out internal game mechanics and RNGs.
I have actually been listening to the podcast on and off for quite a while. My stupid discovery story is that around 2019 I literally just googled “dos game podcast” to see what was out there and this one popped up. I’ve finally decided I want to check out some of the DOS games I missed and this seems like a cool way to do it. Looking forward to playing these with you!
