I’d like to suggest a DOS game called Liero created in 1998. It had a big impact on my childhood back in the early 2000s. I installed it on all my school computers and would play it as much as I could with friends. It influenced my career by jump starting my passion for computers.

The game has been described as a real time clone of worms and 2d quake. For a long time it had quite an online cult following and I believe there is still a small community supporting it and creating modern versions.

It’s official website can be found at https://www.liero.be/

Oh yeah, I totally remember this!
Great little casual deathmatch type game. Pretty sure you could only play local??
Great and creative selection of weapons, with heaps of settings and customizations. I seem to recall turning the reload rate as low as possible and using the winchester rifle was pure chaos.

Yeah, it was local only at the time. However, fans have ported it to run in the browser for online play. At https://www.webliero.com/

There was also a modest modding scene where fans created levels, skins, weapons and custom tools. There are some remnants of it available online still. Which can be seen at https://liero.nl/

I have never heard of this game until now. Must have been a regional thing. It looks super-original and very interesting. 👍

Back in the day we used to play Scorched Earth (and Worms) to the death. I can see the appeal. And Liero is real-time, which adds another layer of depth.
