While the PC is not generally a popular platform for fighting games, surprisingly enough, the DOS ports of the first 3 Mortal Kombat games are widely considered the best contemporary ports of the Arcade originals, e.g.:

Maybe we should play one (or all) of them?

There is MK Trilogy too, and while the PC is once again one of the better-playing versions, the game itself is only so-so in my view.

I wanted Mortal Kombat so bad when it came out and I was a typical 90s kid that wanted to be cool and edgy!
I got a shareware copy at one point, but never got it to work.
Somehow I always thought MK started on DOS and was ported from there. Not sure where I got that idea…

Anyway, I feel this series (particularly the first one) is historically important in video game history, especially PCs given its role in the censorship wars and violence in video games controversy of that period. It was probably only second to Doom in notoriety, maybe even outdoing it at times.

So yeah, it’s about time the club did a fighting game NOT about robots 😉
