I think this is an awfully clever way to do a run and gun on the PC, but I’ve only ever played one another game like it. Indie PC game Intrusion 2, which is the sequel to a flash game I never played. In retrospect very clearly inspired by Abuse.

There is a strand of Japanese indie titles that also have this control schemr. They also have twin-stick controls on modern gamepads. I’ve played “Steel Strider” and “Mechblaze”.

There was a LAN game we’d sometimes play called Soldat that used the same type of control scheme.

The game that leaps to mind for me is Cannon Fodder, isometric rather than side on but it had essentially the same controls a few years earlier.
