    Hi all

I was having a torrid time getting my Xbox gamepad to work with this. It would cause all sorts of weird behaviour on the menus, constantly pulling the cursor into one corner, and then in-game it would send my craft into an uncontrollable spin, no matter how many times I redid the calibration. But a search of the GoG forums led me to this: https://archive.org/details/TIECDJOY_ZIP – it is labelled as a fix for MS Sidewinders but has done the job for my modern gamepad, too. You just drag it into your TIECD folder and say “yes” when it asks if you want to overwrite/replace.

Here is the GoG thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_tie_fighter_special_edition/psa_for_anyone_having_troubles_with_their_joystick_in_the_collecters_cd_version

On another note, I’m using Aaron Giles’ excellent DREAMM emulator to play this (https://dreamm.aarongiles.com), and, having just upgraded DREAMM to version 4, I see it now prompts you to install the above fix before playing Tie Fighter. Clever.

Interesting… I’m playing this is an actual MS Sidewinder 3D pro and it’s working perfectly without patching… the only issue is my ability hahah. Will keep this in mind if I encounter any issues.

I should probably add (I forgot briefly there were so many different versions of this game!) that I am playing the CD version (the 1995 one, not the (boo hiss) Windows one that came a few years later). Are you playing the original 1994 release, out of interest?

I’m not sure, I’m playing the GOG version that I’ve ripped the files from and put onto a real DOS PC. I think that’s the 94 version?

GoG includes all three versions (1994, 1995 (CD, SVGA) and 1998 (Windows)), so that doesn’t help much! Well, will be interesting to hear what other people’s experiences are.

Now i’ve got the joypad working, I am having a blast (that mission 6 in Battle 1 took me a fair while to crack!).

Ok I did some digging and can confirm I’m playing the 1994 version as I’ve got the MIDI soundtrack rather than redbook audio. Helpful video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC2i0wSVE64
