The Secret of Donkey Island is a Czech game made in 1994 by some teenagers as a Monkey Island parody / fan game.
It’s said to be the first Czech commercial computer game and is quite well-known among Czech gamers.
The reason we’re checking it out now is because people have recently made an English translation, and offer it as a free download here: https://donkeyisland.zip/
So this is the first chance for the wider world to get to know this one and we feel it’s fun to see what it’s all about!

An English translation of a Czech parody of an English game which is itself a parody of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride at Disneyland (which I like to imagine, based on no evidence, was built by Czech people).
The only way it could get better is if there were a mod turning it into a Pirates of the Caribbean game.
Yes, this is pretty amazing. They would not be able to sell it, since it seems to be using “borrowed” assets from the original, but as a parody it’s great.
Ah yes, the very legitimate .zip domain.
Shame this doesn’t work in ScummVM, although given its historical status, perhaps it’s something they’d look at?
