I‘d like to suggest Wolfenstein 3D by id software and Apogee. Actually I‘m a bit surprised it hasn’t been suggested yet as it, and I think it’s fair to say, is a milestone in 3D gaming.
The game has been released in 1992 and is the predecessor to id‘s later milestone DOOM.
Although you touched Wolfenstein quite a bit already in your DOOM and ROTT podcast I think it’s worth to get an own episode :).
Certainly! I think the main reason was that we didn’t want to focus too much on id games after doing DOOM and Keen already.
We’re also saving Quake for later 😉
Makes sense. Obviously id software left quite a mark in the 90s.
Quakes soundtrack is massive. One of the first games with a full soundtrack on audio CD. And created by a major music artist, Nine Inch Nails. That was new and certainly isn’t common today either.
No worries, I can wait ;).
