I came here to upvote this after seeing DJ_HiP ask about it on IRC.
If I can, I would like to also request Leisure Suit Larry 3. Should I create a separate topic for that?
I know that, in the past, DGC has covered several games in one episode (Hugo 1,2,3 for example) but I really think Leisure Suit Larry and LSL 3 should be done separately due to their length and differences in art style (try the Tandy “TGA” version of Leisure Suit Larry 3 rather than the EGA), plus 3 has a soundtrack that deserves a good conversation on its own.
+1. Many hours were spent making castles as a child
Pix, I wonder if the brightness issue might be improved by adjusting the flyback. Usually there’s a potentiometer you can slowly adjust. This is adjusting the voltage and is up and above any “brightness” setting in a menu or dial on the front. Of course, this is not advice (CRTs can be deadly once you’ve got the back cover off.)
I apologize for hijacking the thread. Will post my setup in the coming days.
Luckily my brother gave/lent me his copy of the DOS original on CD with the hint book included. I played it through with my wife on vintage hardware (Compaq Presario 2200 desktop). It gave me a chance to try out the OPL3LPT adaptor that I picked up for that machine since it has a dearth of ports (no USB is such a bummer). We had a great time.
There are indeed a ton of great episodes! Some of my favourites include the Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Stunts, and Death Rally episodes.
Where in Canada are you? I’m near Niagara.
If you’re on IRC you can join the #dosgameclub channel on AfterNET. They’ve also got a Maastodon instance if you are interested in social media.
