UKFilmNerdParticipantI had this game back in the day. I remember the rather fetching box cover art, which was a twisted, weird clown face.
What a great cast as well, Christopher Lloyd, Ben Stein (the teacher from Ferris Bueller) and Tim Curry as the voice of the bad guy.
I’m sure Tijn will cover it in the development section, but I remember reading the game cost Virgin a lot of money, and it was a flop in terms of sales.
Also, Toonstruck was either half a game because the full plan was too expensive to complete, or work was started on a sequel.
UKFilmNerdParticipantYeah, it was definitely the biggest upgrade from X-Wing, which was just flat shaded 3D models IIRC.
UKFilmNerdParticipantTheme Park was a great game and I always remember being jealous of people with CD drives as in that version, you can apparently ride some attractions in first person view.
I don’t know how true that is, I only ever played the floppy release back in the day.
UKFilmNerdParticipantI LOVED the original Need for Speed. My go to monthly magazine was PC Format and I think it was them who offered a demo of NFS on the cover CD.
I loved every part of it. The soundtrack, the menu system, those amazing videos and of course the game. There were only videos for a couple of cars that you could watch, and one of them was the Dodge Viper. I can still hear the music for its video in my head now.
I bought the game soon after release and loved it.
I also got NFS2 and it either supported 3Dfx on launch or there was a patch and I thought it looked amazing.
UKFilmNerdParticipantTie Fighter was amazing. Was this the first time they used gourad (spelling?) graphics, it looked amazing and so much better than the original X-Wing (for the time).
UKFilmNerdParticipantHello!
Thank you for the warm welcome. Sadly, I don’t have any old hardware. That PC was upgraded over many years until noone of the original machine was left anymore. In it’s just incarnation I gave it to my father so he could use it for word processing.
Back then, I enjoyed action games and adventure games. I loved basically anything that came out of the Lucasarts stable. I’m my eyes they did no wrong.
Once the CDROM format came in, I bought my first, a quad speed dive from Encom Computers for £120 and that was a bargain price back then.
I became a bit obsessed with FMV based games and I bought some real mediocre games because I was sold on the blurbs on the games packaging. The more CDs, in my opinion, the better!
I’m on episode 87 at the mo, and I’m hoping to become more involved when I’m up to date. I don’t fancy being a voice from the past. 😆
UKFilmNerdParticipantMy biggest memory of Heretic was after playing the game for a few hours, deciding to see what lay ahead by entering the cheat code.
It’s made by ID Software, right?
So I entered IDDQD or IDDKFA first.
Instant death!
Very funny. 😆
UKFilmNerdParticipantI thought the Doom movie was pretty good upon release, but when I watched it again a couple of years ago, I certainly changed my mind!
Some time ago, a few pictures appeared online of Doom for the 3D0, the plot was explained with FMV cut scenes in between the levels. They filmed with actors and full size monster costumes (at least one anyway) against green screen.
The FMV stuff was dumped before the game was released. The footage is probably lost now.
