Thank you for posting this. I was an avid PC Master reader from 1998 until early 2002, so although this issue is “before my time,” just glancing at the pages brings back memories and warm nostalgic feelings.

As for the writer, I was a big fan of his articles and game reviews. Articles where he listed some of his favorite adventure games and RPGs were my favorites and made me want to play all of them. Your description of him is quite on point!

I guess this is from one of the cd-rom versions, which from what I understand from the game’s wikipedia article, had the original midi music converted into cd audio tracks.

This made me look into the files of GOG’s release I am playing atm and it seems that these tracks are in fact included in .ogg format, which I think is a nice touch from GOG. Durations, number of tracks, and track numbers seem to match with the video’s description (I like that track #1 is missing since this was the game’s binary blob in the original CD).

Inside the game, if you open Preferences, there is a check box called CD Music but I don’t know if you can make this work. Maybe if you have the original CD and install the game from there.

Personally I prefer the original midi sound, and I think dosbox does a very good job making the game sound as close as what my old sound card used to sound, or at least that’s how I remember it since my old hardware is unfortunately long gone.
