Thanks so much for this! I figured that something like this is possible and found the skill screen but was not sure if the skills are active by default or not.

    Oh, yes, yes, yes! =)

I stumbeled upon this around 2000 and was instantly hooked. Sadly RL prevented excessive playing back then.

    Great to hear! 🙂

For the time I played I’ve made one kind of speed run trying to reach Krondor and one more or less wandering around play. I’m pretty sure I won’t complete it this month but I look forward to play it in a slow fashion.

I played it on the C64 back in the day and have fond memories of it. Humor like getting mail with “Bard’s Tale 768 avaiable now” or so. =)

Great game! I found the mini quest part a bit tedious. However the game is definitely easier than Another World. 😉

Thanks for the hints, I’ll see what I can find.

My main train of thought since it was announced is: Where the heck do I get a good joystick/flightstick? 😉

Having trouble with colours myself I totally agree.

Apart from that I had big issues with the sitting in the stew part (wolf cave) because I no longer have a mouse and clicking that thing to turn over with a trackball was quite a challenge.

Otherwise I mostly enjoyed the game very much but was grabbing a hint book for some of the riddles. The second part is way harder in my opinion.

This game was really a blast! I second doing this one.

It can also be found in the internet archive.

I’m pretty much in line with your point of view although I’d pick MOO2 as the better game. 😉

Yes, especially with bigger galaxy sizes it becomes a real drag. Just an example: Sending a fleet halfway or completely through the galaxy has to be done system for system.

With a small galaxy and the right starting race choice you can always strife for a quick win by invading the home worlds of all others. Alternatively settling >= 2/3 of the planets.

There used to be an AI patch flying around but it didn’t do much in that regard. If anything the computer players felt more aggressive afterwards IIRC.

The thing we missed most back in the day was a multiplayer mode. That would have opened a whole new world especially in regard to the weak game AI.

Seems I’m ahead of the curve. It went beyond my notice back in the day and I stumbled upon it some month ago and started playing it. Nearly through now.
    It is fun! 🙂

One of the games I replay a bit from time to time since the release. But usually not to finish because it gets too tedious later on. I must have beaten the game with mid size galaxy and above one or two times but that was “just work” in the end.

But it still has great atmosphere and is fun for an hour or two. 🙂
