BobbinParticipantThat’s great! How much was your final score? I think I remember the score for a “conquest” victory only depends on the number of turns you needed, so you should have made a ton of points, even if that was not the primary goal.

But, I must say, the writeup is quite clearly made with an AI, which spoils the pleasure of reading it. If you penned a post manually you’d have something worthy to be posted to Lobsters and Hacker News…

BobbinParticipantWorth noting that the developer Sebastian Macke made good use of this info and managed to extract most of the sprites used in the game: https://github.com/s-macke/Test-Drive-3-Maps .

BobbinParticipant> The speed skating is impossible. I could never figure out how to round the corners without spinning out. The rest of the events are fun to play.
Turns out the falls in the speed skating were a copy protection system that, even if the game was cracked, tried to ruin the fun. Even the GOG copy was cracked incorrectly and contains the issue.
See this wonderful writeup for details:

BobbinParticipant> are you HerrNove on the ZakStunts forums?
Yes, that’s me! Thanks for the welcome, and good luck for the final race week on this month’s track!

BobbinParticipantThanks to everyone for the welcome, and to Butterburp for guessing the (very easy) reference ☺︎
@Evil Taco Since the mph roll back at 255 as shown by Marco in his glitch video, it’s very likely that the speed is stored in a single byte, which would make a version in km/h not possible. But I know very well that feeling of distinctly remembering something that actually was not! Probably your memories conflated GPC with a similar game, happens to me too.

BobbinParticipantThe Möbius idea was the starting point. The initial plan was to just have a straight track (like in the video) with a “Finish” banner halfway: the player was supposed to see that, also see his dot on the minimap is approaching the starting point, and to think he’s arrived. But actually this is a Möbius strip, so he’s now on the “other side” of the streak and must still complete half a lap.
I soon found out that the surprise effect was not enough to justify a track concept. So first I added some decoration (tunnels, nonsense signs) like in the video, and then I made it more challenging: in the edition I’m going to publish the Möbius space circuit has undergone some gravitational warping and now slight bends have appeared. The skill will be in managing to launch the car to 219 mph without losing speed on the bends.
The mod will feature other two tracks, but real-life. Goal is to choose “the best from the past, the present and the future of F1”.
