You might be mixing up Grand Prix Circuit with some other game, possibly Geoff Crammond’s Formula One Grand Prix 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziQWNDgg9ig&feature=youtu.be&t=825.

The two record laps of 52.5 seconds set by my younger brother weren’t captured on video. But I did record my two fastest laps of 52.7 seconds.

I have made a complete overview of the record lap times of me and my younger brother.

    My pleasure!

The difference in my racing in the early years compared to later on and nowadays: I took more corners!
When you are starting to master this game the number of real corners you are racing will drop. More and more corners will move up to the category ‘bended straights’.

Being able to stay just a little bit longer in the red zone of the tachometer is the only small advantage with level 3 compared to level 5. It only has some importance for a few corners and only if you make us of this method. So on average the advantage is only a fraction of a second.

The argument for using level 5 is mainly in the realm of racing: having better opponents.

There is a way to check the built-in scoreboard without having to drive for it. Push the key C when you have selected a circuit in the Track Selection Screen.
To see your fastest laps be sure that you have selected Practice. When your selection was Single Race the scoreboard will show your best average lap times in races.

In some manual of the game it says: “Damage to your car – tire wear, chassis abuse – affects your braking and handling ability.”

    But it doesn’t.

in reply to: Is the Ferrari the worst car in GPC? #333

I can understand the process and I think I have experienced it myself at the time… long time ago. The Ferrari is easier to drive because of better overall handling. When you are passed the beginner stage you will probably prefer the McLaren because of the better acceleration and higher top speed. Because once you are good enough to keep the car at reasonable speed on the track you will gain time without effort at every straight (with the McLaren compared to the Ferrari).
But the next step is to get better and better in taking the corners. And then you will experience the shortcomings of the McLaren and fall in love again with the Ferrari!

The Williams car may seem an interesting option, as a compromise between the Ferrari and the McLaren. That is until you reach the high end of the fifth gear and shift to sixth…

At first it may seem as if spinning or not is a somewhat random event. But it always has to do with high speed / rpm in combination with strong steering action. I think there is consistency in it.
Once you have reached a high level of GPC racing you will find that spinning is hardly an issue because you don’t really use that driving style anymore. Although the risk is higher at difficulty level 5 compared to level 3 which I am used to.

This is what I have written this evening. I hope it helps. When I play GPC I can rely on my experience with the game and drive quite intuitively. Although high concentration is needed to be really fast. So it’s not that simple to translated it into words.

You can watch videos of some of my fastest laps on YouTube. And maybe I can record some racing with live commentary.
Feel free to ask questions or ask for comments on your GPC race videos.

It was fun chatting with you guys about my favourite DOS game! And now I will try and join you in playing a different DOS game each month. But I would also like to keep inspiring you to keep playing GPC and get better at it!

So I will react on some earlier messages and post a rough guide that I have written today.
