Would love to hear any inside info on how Albion relates to Ambermoon, in terms of tech, team/development history, etc.

How did it end up being an MS-DOS game instead of an Amiga one?

How did it end up getting an English translation+release?

Is there any chance that the source code could be released or at least preserved?

Not sure if it’s worth adding to the page, but a couple of notes:

    1. I get a lot of use out of D-Fend Reloaded these days. It makes it easier to set up and launch games in DOSBox.

    2. I recommend using a plan or enhanced DOSBox SVN build, such as DOSBox ECE. Mostly this is because the last official DOSBox release (0.74) is now quite old, and the community has come up with a lot of fixes and enhancements since then.

I found that I can attach one file per edit to a post. Kind of clunky but it works.

Starflight was indeed an inspiration for Mass Effect: https://twitter.com/CaseyDHudson/status/67417995101736961

I’m bummed that I discovered DOS Game Club just after you guys finished playing this.

The DOS version of Starflight was the first retail PC game I owned; it was an xmas gift in the late ’80s. I got the EGA version; apparently the initial release supported only Hercules, CGA RGB, CGA composite, and maybe Tandy, and the EGA support was kind of a hack-job because it was missing some animations, but it was better than 4-color CGA RGB would have been on my 286’s EGA monitor.

I loved this game to death, but being only 9 years old or so, I was not very good at it. I didn’t manage to complete it until a few years later when I was able to get my hands on a walkthrough via a BBS or something. When I did complete it, the end stuck with me as one of the best sci-fi twists of all time.

I also purchased the sequel and enjoyed it, and I still have my original physical versions of both games. I’ll try to attach some pictures.

Just spent a few minutes playing this. I never played it back in the day for some reason, so I have a nostalgia-free viewpoint on the game.

My first impression is that it’s not my kind of thing, except that it reminds me a bit of R.C. Pro-Am on the NES. I think I’m getting too old to be any good at racing games lol.

Technologically this game is pretty interesting:
    – Amiga-style sample-based soundtrack
    – SVGA graphics?
    – Some usage of 3D polygons for the track borders I think?

Some things that I really bounced off of while playing:
    – Walls on sides of track that can bring you to a standstill in an instant are not fun.
    – For some reason, they put some things in that block your view of your car, and sometimes they’re even on corners. This is pure evil and not fun.
    – I don’t have an objection to being able to run over people in a racing game, but it feels extraneous in this game, like it was just added for shock value.

I bet multiplayer is pretty fun.
