Agreed with TigerQuoll about the games with randomly generated maps, or even procedurally generated enemies or encounters.

The idea that you can’t predict exactly how the game will play out makes them replayble. Master of Magic, Transport Tycoon, X-com are all games where the gameplay emerges over time.

Other games i’ve returned to many times seem to be because i’ve forgotten what happens, then you have those nostalgic moments where you go “Oh I Remember This!!!!”, but it’s more like watching a favorite movie again rather than enjoying a new but familiar experience.

Both of the DK games are novel, not many similar games.

Whilst I agree with DK2 being a better game I think it would be awesome to play these games in order, just so that it’s easier to comment on the improvements/differences.

I’ve played A LOT of DK2 and a bunch of multiplayer with my sister, but it would be fun to play the original again as i’m not sure I remember it much.

I used to work at a Laser Tag centre as a teenager and I remember playing this on the work computer late at night when no customers were around.

The regular Laser Tag players would hang around the centre and we’d regularly have 8 player games running over weeks.

Great game and lots of variety. So simple that anyone could pick up and play.

I played thousands of hours in different MUDs in the 90s, but always in versions of Windows.

I still consider them “DOS” weirdly though only because of the text interface and ascii drawings, interface and maps.

“DOS” seems to be, in my mind, related to a “CLI” somehow.

All the MUDs I played were TCP/IP based and I only started understanding how that worked once I got into Win95.

Love this game, played with different parties but only completed it with my 4x Half-Giants.

    Step 1. Choose 4x Half-Giant Fighters.
Step 2. Punch everything in it’s face.
    Step 3. Profit.

I never could get into RPGs for some reason until this game. Something about the view and interface really appealed to me. After this, I played so many RPGs in a top down/isometric view, Baldur’s Gate, Fallout, Nox, Diablo. Definitely the RPG gateway drug for me.
